Goddard is an honors graduate of Whittier College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Social Work Minor. She has devoted nearly two decades of her professional career working to ensure that all children and families have the resources needed to maximize their potential. Valerie served as the Executive Director of Helping Hand Day Nursery, Inc., a non-profit United Way agency, for twelve (12) years and is now President of a consulting firm. In her current role as a two-term gubernatorial appointee and Chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Valerie demonstrates that Responsible, Respectful, and Responsive leadership is essential in building trust with Hillsborough County Citizens and community stakeholders. As the granddaughter of the late Mrs. Altamese Brodie, an education icon serving generations of Tampa families, she learned the importance of community service. Valerie firmly believes one person can make a difference, and each of us should live our lives NOT by how much we can get out of life, but by how much we can give.
